If signing in requires more than your password and an email verification code, that means Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) is enabled on your Hytale account. Hytale offers a couple of 2FA options: mobile authentication and passkeys.
Two-step verification (sometimes called multi-factor authentication) adds an extra layer of protection to your Hytale account by making it much harder for someone else to sign in. It works by requiring two separate forms of identity: your password, plus an additional security method. That way, even if someone manages to get hold of your password, they won't be able to access your account without your enrolled security method.
This is also a great reminder of why it's important to use a unique password for each of your accounts.
Mobile Authentication:
Mobile authentication requires a time-sensitive code in addition to your usual login. These 6-digit codes are generated by an authenticator app on your device, such as Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator, and refresh on a rolling interval. Since the codes are created on your device and constantly change, your account stays secure even if someone else knows your password.
Passkeys:
A passkey is a secure, password-free way to sign in. Instead of typing anything in, your identity is confirmed using your device's built-in security, such as Face ID, Touch ID, Windows Hello, or a physical security key. Because passkeys are stored securely on your device, they offer stronger protection while making sign-in quicker and easier.
Backup Codes:
When you enable 2FA, you're given a set of backup codes that act as a safety net for both mobile authentication and passkeys. If you lose access to your authenticator app or passkey device, you can enter an unused code to sign in. Each code works only once, so store them somewhere safe and accessible.

If you have lost access to your Hytale account email, or can no longer remember it, your account cannot be recovered using these methods. We recommend reaching out to our support team for further assistance.
There are several reasons a login issue might occur. The list below covers a few of the most common ones:
Using a different sign-in method. Hytale supports several sign-in options, including Discord, Email & Password, and Google. If you haven't linked any additional methods in your account settings, you'll only be able to log in using the method you originally signed up with.
\nFor example, if you created your account with Discord, you'll need to select Discord at sign-in and use the same Discord account and email you registered with. Attempting to sign in through a different method using that same email will produce the following error:

Not sure which login method you used? As long as you remember the exact email address linked to your Hytale account, you can still recover access. Every Hytale account requires a verified email address, no matter which sign-up method you chose.
If you have access to that email, head to the account recovery page and enter the email address linked to your Hytale account. From there, you can set a password and log in using Email & Password going forward, even if your original sign-up method was with a specific provider.

The Hytale server can run on any device with at least 4GB of memory and Java 25. Both x64 and arm64 architectures are supported.
We recommend monitoring RAM and CPU usage while the server is in use to understand typical consumption for your player count and playstyle - resource usage heavily depends on player behavior.

--bootstrap starts the server in a minimal mode that loads only the plugins needed to authenticate and download the rest of the server payload (JAR, Assets.zip, launcher scripts). The server extracts everything into the current directory and shuts down so the real launcher scripts can take over.
Place HytaleServer.jar in an empty directory and start it in bootstrap mode:

Hytale Servers require authentication to enable communication with our service APIs and to counter abuse.
Note: There is a limit of 500 servers per Hytale game license to prevent early abuse. If you require additional capacity, you can purchase another Hytale game license here.

View distance is the main driver for RAM usage. We recommend limiting maximum view distance to 12 chunks (384 blocks) for both performance and gameplay.
For comparison: Minecraft servers default to 10 chunks (160 blocks). Hytale's default of 384 blocks is roughly equivalent to 24 Minecraft chunks. Expect higher RAM usage with default settings - tune this value based on your expected player count.
Hytale supports native mechanisms for routing players between servers. No reverse proxy like BungeeCord is required.
Transfers a connected player to another server. The server sends a referral packet containing the target host, port, and an optional 4KB payload. The client opens a new connection to the target and presents the payload during handshake.

During connection handshake, a server can reject the player and redirect them to a different server. The client automatically connects to the redirected address.

The Hytale protocol uses a hash to verify client-server compatibility. If hashes don't match exactly, the connection is rejected.
\nCurrent Limitation: Client and server must be on the exact same protocol version. When we release an update, servers must update immediately or players on the new version cannot connect.
\nComing Soon: Protocol tolerance allowing ±2 version difference between client and server. Server operators will have a window to update without losing player connectivity.

Configuration files (config.json, permissions.json, etc.) are read on server startup and written to when in-game actions occur (e.g., assigning permissions via commands). Manual changes while the server is running are likely to be overwritten.

Player counts displayed in server discovery are gathered from client telemetry rather than server-reported data. This prevents count spoofing and ensures players can trust the numbers they see when browsing servers. Servers will still be able to report an unverified player count to users, who added the server outside of server discovery.
A party system enabling players to group up and stay together across server transfers and minigame queues.
Integration with server discovery:
Players can browse servers with their party and join together. Party size requirements and restrictions are visible before joining, so groups know upfront if they can play together.
This system provides the foundation for a seamless social experience where friends can move through the Hytale ecosystem as a group without manual coordination.
A payment gateway built into the client that servers can use to accept payments from players. Optional but encouraged.

SRV records allow players to connect using a domain name (e.g., play.example.com) without specifying a port, with DNS handling the lookup to resolve the actual server address and port.
Current Status: Unsupported. Under evaluation.
Why it's not available yet:
There is no battle-tested C# library for SRV record resolution. Existing options either require pulling in a full DNS client implementation, which introduces unnecessary complexity and potential stability risks, or lack the production readiness we require for a core networking feature.
We are evaluating alternatives and will revisit this when a suitable solution exists.
Authenticated servers will have access to official API endpoints for player data, versioning, and server operations. These endpoints reduce the need for third-party services and provide authoritative data directly from Hytale.

This article covers how to open your singleplayer world to friends, and what to do if someone cannot connect.

\n \n What You Need: A normal home internet connection.\n Hytale sets the connection up for you, and most networks need no setup\n at all. A few networks cannot work. Read\n Known Limitations for those.

\n \n Add each other as friends first. This gives Hytale far\n more ways to connect you. See\n Why Friends Matter.

\n \n Early System: This feature is still maturing. We are\n actively improving it, but expect that it won't work flawlessly for\n everyone yet.\n \n
\n Share codes contain your IP address. Never post them publicly, paste\n them in public chats, or show them on stream. Only share codes directly\n with people you trust.\n

Hytale lets you open your singleplayer world to friends without a dedicated server. When you turn this on, Hytale works out how your friends can reach you and gives you a share code. Send that code to a friend and they can join.
Hytale tries several ways to connect the two of you and uses the best one that works. It always prefers the fastest, most direct route. If your two networks do not allow a direct connection, Hytale will instead relay the traffic to ensure you can still connect, but it adds a little delay.
All of this happens on its own. You do not need to change anything on your router unless Hytale tells you to.
Hytale can only use its best connection methods between players who are friends in Hytale.
Add each other as friends in Hytale before you share a code. This is the single best thing you can do to make a join succeed.
Parental managed accounts that are unable to use the Friends social features can still play together if you are on the same home network. If you are not on the same network and are experiencing issues, we recommend heading to the Tailscale section.
Hytale then sets up your connection. This takes a few seconds. The Connection section shows one of these results:

A share code appears when the world is open. Click Copy to Clipboard and send the code to your friends.
The Copy Network Report button copies a diagnostic report. The report contains no IP addresses, so you can paste it in a public support thread.
Hytale finds the best way to connect you and joins you to the world. This usually takes a few seconds.
Start here. On the hosting computer, open Online Play and click Copy Network Report. The report names the exact cause. Copy it and reach out to our Player Support team here for assistance if you get stuck.
Symptom: The Online Play screen says friends can join, but your friend gets a connection timeout or failure.

Many joins still succeed in this state. Try the join first. Only change your router if it fails. Please make sure you understand any changes you are making to your router before making adjustments. Verify before opening any ports and their implications. The steps provided in this guide are specific to Hytale and are safe to proceed.
Hytale could not find a way for anyone outside your home to reach you. Check these in order:
\nDouble NAT means your connection passes through two routers. The usual cause is an internet provider box in front of your own router.
\nForwarding a port on only one of them does not work. The other router still blocks the traffic. The forward looks correct in the router settings and still does nothing.
\nYour friends can often still join, because Hytale's other methods need no forwarded port. Try the join before you change anything.
\nTo fix it fully, use one of these:
\nSome internet providers share one public address between many homes. This is called Carrier-Grade NAT, or CGNAT. Port forwarding cannot work when your provider does this.
\nTo check, compare two addresses:
\nIf the two do not match, you are behind CGNAT.
\nFor a more definitive check on Windows:
\ntracert -d 8.8.8.8\nIf the first hop is a public IP, and not 192.168.x.x, 10.x.x.x, or 172.16-31.x.x, you probably have a direct connection. If you see several private ranges before the public addresses, you are behind CGNAT or Double NAT.
\nHytale can still connect you through CGNAT. Port forwarding is the only part that cannot work. To get it back, ask your provider for a public IP address.
Use this if your router does not support UPnP and you have a direct public IP.
\nThe share code includes IPv6 addresses when they are available. Your friend can connect straight to an IPv6 address if both of you have working IPv6 from your provider. IPv6 has no NAT, so no port forwarding is needed.
The simplest fix when you cannot host is to swap roles. Ask your friend to create the world and invite you. Network setups differ, so one player can often host when the other cannot.

\n%appdata%\\Hytale\\saves\\\nTailscale is a free app that creates a private connection between your computers. It works around most router and firewall problems that Hytale cannot solve on its own.

Once both players have installed Tailscale and signed in:
\nHytale finds your Tailscale connection on its own and adds it to the code. It uses Tailscale only when a normal connection does not work, because traffic through Tailscale is a little slower. Tailscale is a reliable backup, not a faster route.

\nUse a dedicated server for a persistent world, or for more than a few friends. A dedicated server gives you:
\nOption 1: Rent from a Hosting Provider
\nThe easiest solution is to rent a server from a provider we have \"Launch Verified\":
\nThese providers handle the networking, the hardware, and the maintenance. The servers are online 24/7 and reachable from anywhere. You need no UPnP and no port forwarding. Most offer a one-click Hytale install and automatic updates.

Friend joins cannot cover every network. These are the cases we know about.
A few networks block the kind of traffic Hytale needs. When that happens, no connection method works and no setting on your side can fix it. Some workplace networks, school networks, and public Wi-Fi networks do this.
To test for it, join from a different network, such as a phone hotspot. A join that works on the hotspot and fails at home or at work points to a network block.
To fix it, use a network that allows Hytale through. If you manage the network yourself, ensure your firewall allows outbound UDP traffic on port 3478 so Hytale can coordinate friend connections.
Port forwarding only works when you set it up on both routers. Hytale cannot do this for you, because it can only reach the inner one. Read Double NAT for the full fix.
Your friends can usually still join through Double NAT by other means.
Your provider shares one public IP among many homes. No port you forward is reachable from outside. This is a limit of the provider network, not of Hytale.
Your friends can usually still join. To get port forwarding back, ask your provider for a public IP.
A few routers handle connections in a way that blocks every direct route to you. This is called symmetric NAT.
Hytale spots this and relays your traffic instead. Your friends can still join, and you should expect slightly higher ping. To get a direct connection back, forward the port on your router.
Hytale's best connection methods are only available between friends. A code shared with a stranger falls back to the addresses in the code alone. Read Why Friends Matter.
The report describes the host's own network. It cannot yet say how each friend connected. Use the in-game ping as a rough guide. A friend on a relayed connection usually shows higher ping than one on a direct connection.
The share code is a Base64-encoded, compressed JSON structure containing:

It is what lets the two games work out a route between themselves rather than relying on a fixed address.
\nThe Ice block marks the code as ICE-capable. The joining game opens a signaling session instead of trying the addresses one by one.
Candidate types:
\nA code carries at most 16 candidates. Addresses that work from outside your home are kept first.
ICE tests every pair of addresses at once and picks the best pair that answers. Local preference decides which of your own addresses is preferred:

A join that cannot use ICE falls back to the addresses in the share code. The game tries them in priority order, highest first.
ExpiresAt in the code.To find your log files, open the Hytale Launcher and click the settings cog in the top corner. Under Open Directory... there are two buttons:
Click User Data, then open the Logs folder. Each log file is named with the date and the time it was created, for example 2026-07-19_14-32-08_client.log. Choose the newest file, or the file that matches the time of the problem. You can drag or copy this file so it is ready to be shared with our team.
The game keeps only the 10 most recent client log files. Copy the file soon after the problem happens.
Note: the paths in the tables below are the defaults for the release patchline. If you select a different patchline, or you installed Hytale to a custom folder on Windows, your files are in a different place. The User Data button always opens the correct folder.

If you are running into a bug or have been asked to provide logs, there are two ways to send them to us.
This is the fastest option, because the launcher collects the log files for you.
With Attach logs switched on, the launcher sends the launcher log, your two most recent client or editor logs, and your two most recent server logs.
Head to your Hytale account and click on the Bug Reports tab. Fill out the required information about the issue you're experiencing, and attach the log file in the file upload section before submitting the report.

Hytale can be downloaded from our website here: https://accounts.hytale.com/download. It automatically detects your current OS, but you can select a different one at the bottom.
For security reasons, always download the Hytale Launcher from the official Hytale website. For more information about account security, please refer to our How to keep your Hytale account secure article.
After downloading the Hytale Launcher, double-click it to launch the installer. Click \"Next\", choose your installation folder, then select your game folder and click \"Install\".
When the installation completes, click \"Finish\" to open the Hytale Launcher automatically.
After downloading the Hytale Launcher for macOS, click on the file to open the installation dialog, and drag it into your Applications folder.

Open your Terminal and run this command:

Open your Hytale Launcher and click Install to download and install the game. Hytale will be released on January 13th, 2026.
You can select a different game profile from the top-right of the Hytale Launcher.
You can uninstall both Hytale and the Hytale Launcher separately or together, depending on your operating system.
You can uninstall the game directly from the Hytale Launcher settings panel - click the settings button in the top corner and select Uninstall.
Many options are available in this panel, but to continue with the uninstallation, select the Uninstall button again.
Your game is now uninstalled.
To uninstall the launcher on Windows, click the Start button, search for \"Hytale\", right-click the app, and select Uninstall. Follow the Uninstall Wizard to choose whether to keep your game files and data. By default, the game and the launcher will be removed.

Can I combine or merge multiple accounts into one to keep all my profiles together?
Answer: It isn’t possible to merge multiple accounts or transfer profiles between them. Each purchase is tied to the account it was originally made on and can’t be moved to another. Once an account is created, all linked profiles and content remain tied to that account and cannot be transferred.
I deleted my account. Can I reuse the same username or email?
Answer: Yes, you can reuse the same email address to create a new account, but the username will remain locked for a certain amount of time before becoming available again.
Can I restore a deleted account?
Answer: There’s no way to recover or restore a deleted account.
What happens to my data if I delete my account?
Answer: All your data will be permanently removed from our database. Once deleted, you’ll lose access to the game and your profiles.
How can I delete my 2FA (two-factor authentication)?
Answer: You can remove your two-factor authentication from your account settings here. For more information on keeping your account secure, see our article How to keep your Hytale account secure.
Why is my reserved username empty after pre-ordering the game?
Answer: After completing your pre-order, your username is permanently secured under Game Profiles. It's normal for the Reserved Usernames section to be empty once the purchase is finalized. You can edit your username and change its capitalization at any time through Game Profiles.
I never received a username reservation token, but I pre-ordered the game. When will I get mine?
Answer: Reservation tokens are no longer needed. Username reservation tokens were part of an early reservation system for newsletter subscribers during a limited period.
Pre-ordering any Hytale game edition permanently secures your username, so waiting for a username token is no longer needed. If you have pre-ordered the game, your username will appear under Game Profiles instead of Reserved Usernames.
What are reservation tokens, and how can I get one?
Answer: Reservation tokens were given to newsletter subscribers and selected content creators before pre-orders became available. They are no longer required; simply pre-purchase the game to select and claim a username.
If I refund my purchase, will my username still be available?
Answer: Your username remains reserved for 7 days after a refund. After that, it becomes available to other players automatically.
Is there a way to change my username even if I’m on cooldown?
Answer: No. Each game profile can only change its username once every 30 days.
Can I delete a profile?
Answer: No, individual profiles cannot be deleted. This is your license to play Hytale. A profile is created automatically when you pre-order the game.
Can I have a different edition on each profile?
Answer: Yes. A single Hytale account can have multiple profiles, each with its own edition. For example, you can have one profile with the Cursebreaker Edition and another with the Standard Edition under the same account.
When will the game be released?
Answer: Early Access will begin on January 13th, 2026. Follow us on our Discord Server to stay updated!
How long will Early Access last?
Answer: We don’t have a specific duration yet. We plan to keep Early Access running until the game feels fully polished and ready for release.

Players bear full responsibility for all actions performed on their account.
First and foremost no account sharing. The only person who should have access is yourself and no one else. Any actions which occur on your account are your responsibility. It is also your responsibility to secure your account and avoid becoming compromised.
Sites and common companies offer Two-Factor Authentication (also referred to as 2FA or Multi-Factor Authentication). This security method uses a secondary device to generate a code you input before logging into your associated account. If your password is discovered by someone else, they will be unable to log in as they cannot generate the required code.
There are various ways for Two-Factor Authentication to send a code; the common ways are via a phone application such as Google Authenticator or a text message to your phone. We recommend you have Two-Factor Authentication on all your important accounts, such as email accounts.
Hytale offers Two-Factor Authentication, which you can activate here.
Always keep a copy of the backup codes you received when you set up Two-Factor Authentication in case you ever lose your phone. You will be locked out of your accounts if you lose your phone and these codes.
All accounts online have passwords. We have some general tips to help you keep those passwords secure.
Using long passwords
Use passwords with at least 12 or more characters where possible - longer ones are better. This helps make your password harder for a person or machine to guess or brute force.
Using a range of characters
Use various character types, including letters (upper and lowercase), numbers, and special characters (e.g. !, @, #, or &). Avoid changing words with numbers, such as “P4aS5W0rd!” is still not a secure password.
Unique passwords for each account

Go to hytale.com and click Account in the top-right corner of the page.
You'll see all of the available login options. No matter which method you originally used, click Forgot password just below the login options.
The option you used last is marked Last Used. We recommend trying that method first. If it doesn't get you back in, continue with the steps below.
On the Recover Account screen, enter the email address your Hytale account is registered with, then click Email me a recovery link.
Note: if you don't remember your registered email address, you won't be able to recover your account.
Check your inbox for an email titled Reset Your Hytale Account Password, then click Reset My Password. If you don't see the email, check your spam or junk folder. You can also request a new link from the recovery screen.
Note: this link expires 60 minutes after it's sent and can only be used once. If you request a new link, any earlier link stops working.
The link takes you to a new area, where you can choose a password. Pick a strong, unique password. For tips, see How to keep your Hytale account secure.
Once your new password is saved, you'll be taken back to your account details. You've successfully recovered your account.
To get started with Hytale, you'll need to create an account on our website. Your account gives you access to our store and lets you manage your profile and settings. You'll register your username later, after completing a purchase.

You can sign up using an account connection with one of the available providers (such as Discord, Epic Games, Google, Microsoft, or Twitch), or register directly with an email address and a password by clicking Register here. Signing up with a provider will redirect you to that provider's login page, where you'll sign in with the account you'd like to use for your Hytale login going forward.

Next, enter your date of birth and click Save Date of Birth to continue.
Due to privacy and security concerns we do not store the date of birth entered during registration and only use it as an identifier to establish if the account owner is compliant with the legal requirements to own and operate a Hytale account. Unfortunately Hytale support is unable to modify the date entered during account registration, but it is worth noting this will not have any impact on your account when trying to contact support.
If the account owner is under 13 years old, a parent or guardian will need to provide consent. To continue, enter the parent or guardian's email address and click Request Parental Consent.
Please double check that both email addresses are entered correctly and that the parent or guardian has provided permission before proceeding.

Before you can make a purchase or edit your account settings, you’ll need to verify your account by clicking the link provided in the email we send you. It can take a few minutes for the email to arrive. If you haven’t received it, please check your spam/junk folder. You can click Resend email to get a new email if necessary.
If you mistyped your email address during registration, you can click the trash can icon at any stage to delete the account and repeat the process.
