Self-Recovery
There are several reasons a login issue might occur. The list below covers a few of the most common ones:
-
Using a different sign-in method. Hytale supports several sign-in options, including Discord, Email & Password, and Google. If you haven't linked any additional methods in your account settings, you'll only be able to log in using the method you originally signed up with.
For example, if you created your account with Discord, you'll need to select Discord at sign-in and use the same Discord account and email you registered with. Attempting to sign in through a different method using that same email will produce the following error:
"An account with the same identifier (email, phone, username, ...) exists already."
If you're seeing this error but you're confident the email is correct, it usually means the account was created using a different login method. It's worth making a note of which provider you registered with, since it's possible to have separate accounts across multiple providers all tied to the same email address which can definitely cause some confusion. To troubleshoot further, please try another one of our available login methods and see if you are able to login. If you're still stuck, head to the Not sure which login method you used section below.
-
A changed sign-in method. If you've unlinked your original sign-in method or updated your Hytale account email, you'll need to use your new method to log in. If you suspect your sign-in method was changed without your permission, head to the Compromised Account section below for more information.
-
Using a shared or public computer. The browser typically "remembers" who was previously logged in. For example, if someone already logged into their Discord account on that browser, clicking "Sign in with Discord" will automatically log you in with their Discord account. To prevent this:
- Sign out of any social media accounts you plan to use (Discord, Google, Microsoft, etc.) before logging into Hytale
- Clear all browser cache, history and cookies
- Use a private/incognito window to start with a fresh browser session
-
Gmail's dot-stripping behavior. Google ignores dots (.) in the address, so johnsmith@gmail.com and john.smith@gmail.com both deliver to the same inbox. However, Hytale treats these as two separate email addresses. If you signed up with john.smith@gmail.com, you'll need to log in using that exact address, including the dot.
-
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) Issues. During login, if you are prompted to authenticate through a second factor other than email verification, 2FA is enabled on your account. For troubleshooting 2FA issues, see our dedicated article here.
-
Launcher login issues. If you keep getting automatically logged into the wrong account when using the launcher, it's because your browser "remembers" your previous login. Even signing out in the launcher won't clear your browser's stored login information. To fix this:
- Sign out of your account at https://accounts.hytale.com
- Sign out in the launcher
- Log in from the website, first, using the desired account and keep the browser tab open
- Head back to the launcher and click Sign In to open your existing browser session with the correct account.
Not sure which login method you used? As long as you remember the exact email address linked to your Hytale account, you can still recover access. Every Hytale account requires a verified email address, no matter which sign-up method you chose.
If you have access to that email, head to the account recovery page and enter the email address linked to your Hytale account. From there, you can set a password and log in using Email & Password going forward, even if your original sign-up method was with a specific provider.
If you can't remember which email address you registered with, we recommend trying a few that you think it may be.
If you're taken to a screen like the one below, this means you're creating a new account rather than logging into your existing one. If you don't wish to keep this new account, you can delete it by clicking the trash bin icon in the top right corner
Compromised Account
In some cases, your account may have been compromised or stolen. Your sign-in method & email might be correct, but the system recognizes it as a new active account because something was changed without your authorization. Here are a couple of ways to check whether this has happened:
-
Check your inbox for an email change notification. If your account email was changed, you should have received a confirmation from Hytale with the subject line "Your Hytale Account Email Address Was Changed."
-
Watch for unfamiliar emails regarding account changes. If you're prompted to confirm an email address you don't recognize, that's a sign your account may be vulnerable and is worth confirming your access.
- Check whether a previous purchase is missing. If you're able to log in but notice that a purchase you made is no longer showing on your account, you may have unknowingly created a new account. This ties back to the first cause listed above, where an unauthorized email change leads to a new Hytale account being created when you log in.
If either of these applies to you, please contact our support team right away.
